Detailed Design of Alignment and Permanent Way of the High-Speed Railway Line from El Ain El Sokhna City On the Red Sea Cost to Marsa Matrouh on the Mediterranean Coast

The High-Speed Rail “Green Line” is the Egypt’s first-ever high-speed rail line. It will connect the port cities of Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea and Marsa Matrouh on the Mediterranean Sea, passing near Cairo and the New Administrative Capital located 30 miles east of Cairo, for an overall length of 660 km.

The project includes 20 stations, one main depot and two stabling yards. The line is expected to transport more than 30 million people a year and to reduce the travel time by up to 50%.

The Green Line is the first line of the Egyptian high-speed rail network which will be developed as a state-of-the-art integrated rail system with a high-speed, fully electrified main and freight rail line. The rail system will feature the latest technology and comply with European standards.

Main technical features of the project: track form ballasted continuous welded rails tracks, double-track main line 660 km length, max. speed for passenger trains 250 km/hr, max. speed for heavy freight trains 120 km/hr.

The services provided regard the Detailed Design (approved for construction) of Track Alignment and Permanent Way after review of the Preliminary Design and include: horizontal and vertical alignment for double-track high-speed line, main depot and stabling yards, technical specifications for track components, technical support for identification of ballasted/unballasted sections, calculation of track stiffness and deformations, design of guard-rails, wheel-rail interface study.
